NPR: End Of Life Care In America, A Doctor's Diagnosis ...

This was one of the most thoughtful and thought-provoking interviews I have heard on the subject of end-of-life care.

Dr. Robert Martensen puts forward some intriguing thoughts about how the U.S. medical establishment approaches end-of-life care and the impacts it has on patients, their families and the ethics and economics of health care.

It's 40 minutes you will not regret.

American Tobacco campus in Durham ...

Had a chance to walk through the "new" American Tobacco campus in Durham, N.C.

This is a spectacular example of urban revitalization, turning the old American Tobacco mills into dining, shops and spacious workspaces. The centerpiece is the cascading waterfalls that flow through the entire campus.

While I didn't have one of my Nikons with me, I snapped a few iPhone pix in the dark (which were helped with Photoshop filters).

The American Tobacco Tower and Lucky Strike factory stack.

Even WUNC radio, North Carolina's NPR station, has moved to the campus. Great exposure for public radio!

On the ethics of journalism and photo portraits ...

On this week's "On the Media" from WNYC and NPR News, Bob Garfield offered insightful commentary on the role of photographers and their subjects in journalistic photo portraits. It's 15 minutes well spent. Follow along with an online slideshow of magazine covers.

WRNI ... road tested ...

I road tested the new WRNI iPhone streaming app today through more than 200 miles up and down I-95 from Rhode Island to Connecticut.

It held its connection brilliantly and clearly over 3G, but got a little choppy over Edge.

But what a treat to not have to worry about what radio preset to push to find the nearest NPR station ~ and to keep up with local Rhode Island news.
